The Story Behind the Art

Hey there! My name is Johanna, and I am the artist behind JauntWraps. I believe deeply in the power of individuality and self-expression, and what better way to embrace that than through wearable art?

A Journey Through Art and Healing
Art has always been more than just a passion for me—it’s been a lifeline. Growing up, I faced significant challenges with depression and mental health, and I found solace in the creative process. Art saved me, offering a way to express emotions that words couldn't capture. From a young age, I knew I wanted to be an artist, and I explored a variety of mediums, including drawing, painting, sculpting, knitting, crocheting, and many other crafts. For a long time, painting was my favorite—until I stumbled upon wire wrapping.

During my first year of college, a particularly tough time for my mental health, I discovered wire wrapping almost by accident. My dorm’s RA organized a workshop with various activities to help us cope with our mental health struggles, and one station had some pliers, wire scraps, and tumbled rocks. I fiddled with them and, to my surprise, created a pendant. It was far from perfect, but it was the beginning of something transformative. I ordered more supplies and dove into this new art form, finding joy in creating unique gifts for friends and family. As people began showing interest in purchasing my pieces, I realized this hobby could become something more, and so, JauntWraps was born.

The Evolution of JauntWraps
As I honed my wire-wrapping skills and built my business, I encountered another fascinating medium: electroforming. The first time I saw an electroformed piece, I was captivated and knew I had to learn the process. The journey wasn’t easy—electroforming is a complex and intricate chemical process—but after months of research and experimentation, I mastered the technique. Electroforming opened up endless possibilities, allowing me to combine my love for art, science, and nature in entirely new ways.

Nature-Inspired Wearable Art
Nature is a constant source of inspiration for me. I often incorporate gemstones, insects, foliage, and natural metals into my work, aiming to highlight the beauty of the natural world. Each piece I create is unique, reflecting the individuality of the wearer and the organic elements that inspired it.
